Thousands Petition to Switch Halloween to Last Saturday of the Month

I’m not gonna lie, I didn’t really think this was a bad idea, but I honestly don’t think it’s going to happen.

More than 80,000 people have signed a petition onchange.org to move Halloween to the last Saturday of the month, instead of making it a specific date of October 31st.

Their original goal was 75,000, but have no increased that goal to over 100,000 since so many people have actually come to sign the petition.

The movement organizers, The Halloween & Costume Association, mostly focus their reasoning on child safety. They state that 70% of parents do not accompany their children during trick-or-treating which can result in an unsafe environment. Advocates also justify the benefits of changing the holiday to a weekend which include a lack of traffic, and more hours to celebrate.

“51% Of Millennials say Halloween is their favorite holiday, why cram it into 2 rushed evening weekday hours when it deserves a full day!?!” the organizers add.

If the petition gets enough followers, they can submit it to President Donald Trump to sign, however since it’s not an official federal holiday, there’s no telling what the government can do about it.
