Nora En Pure On Her Whirlwind Year: 'I Was Able To Really Develop My Sound'

Nora En Pure is closing a non-stop year, which saw the South African-Swiss DJ take her deep house sets to the likes of Coachella and Tomorrowland, and she's not looking at stopping anytime soon. In fact, she's spending most of the rest of her year on the road bouncing from the United States to New Zealand, Switzerland and then back to California for a rousing New Year's Eve set in San Francisco. Oh, and the hustle only continues in the coming year.

Ahead of her Thursday night show (November 9) at Output in Brooklyn, the producer spoke with iHeartRadio about her whirlwind year, her recent remix of BLVKJVCK and DYO's "Mind Games" and what the dance producer has up her sleeves in 2018. Scroll on below to catch up with Nora en Pure.

iHeartRadio: 2017 has been absolutely stellar to you. What is your highlight of the last year?

Nora En Pure: Big moments for me were definitely playing Coachella and the 3-hour Daybreak Session at Tomorrowland on the MainStage. Apart from that, I feel that I was able to really develop my sound further in recent months. I have a couple of tracks coming up that I am really excited about and I am really looking forward to sharing them!

Your recent mix of BLVKJVCK x DYO's "Mind Games" is breathtaking. What was your vision when reimagining the track?

Thank you. I also find it different and fresh. The track is like an adventure, a story itself. I mainly wanted it to be a bit more driving than previous remixes I have done, and chose the basic beats that way. I always try to work a lot with the vocals and build the rest around it as harmonic as possible. Now, in my sets I am always looking forward to this track and it works really well.

You just announced a string of fall and winter tour dates. How do you manage such a grueling tour schedule?

I wonder that myself at times, but I must say during recent years I got used to these hectic travel plans. I just consider the flights as really long commutes, but, of course, this immense time in the planes and airports is definitely a strong downside. Also, in January I will have a break and probably spend some time in Thailand to relax and refuel a bit from the chronic jetlag.

How does the New York City scene compare to all the other places you’ve performed?

Oh, I love playing in New York. I always feel it is a big honor to play here. Personally, a big difference is that it often has made me nervous. It is like the city of the best acts, artists and stages. Here you should definitely be good. So in NY, I always felt a bit more pressure, but then I noticed quickly that I have a strong following here and the crowds are very enthusiastic, so I really enjoy that.

What does 2018 have in store for you?

I hope to bring #Purified events into the big cities, probably to small intimate venues as those are almost my favorite to play. Other than that, as mentioned above, I have a couple of new tracks that are almost finished and I would love to find the time for an album. Maybe I can work on one in 2018, but I would definitely need a bit more time at home in that case. I am sure though the touring will still stay quite extensive and hopefully can visit also some new places I haven't been before.
