Sasha Velour Reveals Her Planned Performance Stunt For Britney's 'Stronger'

RuPaul's Drag Race Season 9 champ Sasha Velour stunned the crowd when she lifted her wig during her final lip-sync faceoff to Whitney Houston's "So Emotional" and unveiled a wave of rose petals. However, die-hard Drag Race fans might be interested in learning the tactic that the queen had planned if she was assigned Britney Spears' "Stronger."

During the finale, Ru Paul hid the final lip-sync songs in two mystery boxes and Peppermint chose box number two ("Stronger") for her showdown with Trinity Taylor. That left Sasha and Shea Coulee with Houston's classic. In an interview with BuzzFeed's Drag Race recap podcast, The Library, Sasha spilled the beans on what would have been her performance tactic to Spears' 2000 pop classic.

“I had scissors strapped to my thigh and I was going to cut the wig until I was bald — to be stronger as a bald queen at the end," she explained during the 6:35 moment during the podcast.

As for her rose-filled number for "So Emotional," Sasha said that there's plenty of symbolism behind that decision. "It's a song about loving too much. Roses as a symbol of love, but then an excess of them that’s almost a mess or disturbing or grotesque," she said. "That’s where I wanted to take it. I'm falling apart and exploding with this love metaphor… I felt truly so emotional standing up there onstage lip-syncing against my best friend in the competition."
